| News : First Panasonic L10 review |
photoreview.com.au has the first Panasonic L10 review up. It is pretty favorable. Quote:
* Build: 9 * Ease of use: 8.5 * Image quality: 9 * OVERALL: 8.5 Panasonic's second DSLR camera, the 10.0-megapixel Lumix DMC-L10 is far more conventional-looking than its predecessor. It's also lighter and provides some of the features that have made the Lumix name popular with digicam buyers, such as an LCD monitor that can rotate through 270 degrees, an Intelligent ISO setting, a range of Scene pre-sets and a straightforward user interface. |

| News : E-3 Samples and Hands on previews |
I have collected some links of previews and interviews from all over the Web and there is actually quite amount of stuff around about this camera, even though it is only available as "preview" to reviewers. I think this camera shows that Olympus means business with the system. They obviously are going to go for the top pros's someday, and with the E-3 they are getting closer. The E-3 seems to be much closer to Nikon D300 than Canon 40D in performance and build. It has 100% viewfinder, and huge prism that makes the viewfinder the largest available, sans full frame cameras.
Totally new AF system is probably the biggest breakthrough, Olympus customers have had to live with primitive 3 point AF module, even though Olympus has squeezed more performance from it with every model. The new module is designed from scratch, with 11 all-crosstype sensors working in very low light. (-2EV) Olympus clames it is fastest in the world with the new SWD lenses. It will be interesting to see how that will compare with Canon/Nikon AF systems. The camera has "only" 5FPS, probably the bare minimum to count as professional camera. With the AF claims, if Olympus/Panasonic could up the speed to, say, 8fps they might have a 1D/D3/D300 alternative for photographers who don't have a personal camera carrier. Will I buy one? Yes, I am just waiting for it to become available... :D Click Read More for collection of previews/news on Olympus E-3. Updated 24.10.2007: ClubSNAP coverage of E-3 launch in Tokio |

| Articles : E1's Successor Evolutionary Concept |
In Just a little over 48 hours, everyone will be rushing to see how does the new E-series Flagship measure against the best of them out there. A frequent mistake, one no different than comparing apples to oranges.
For the drive system of the E-1's successor, we set high technological targets worthy of a flagship model and then went on to achieve them Shigeru Iwase Senior Supervisor, Product Development Department, R&D Division, Olympus Imaging Corporation
Olympus has made a few pioneering advancements to its upcoming successor to the E-1, by completely redesigning the Shutter, Mirror & Viewfinder mechanisms.
Firstly, They set out to build an ultrafast shutter with low energy consumption and higher durability. They have achieved that by reducing the number of gear shifting steps; and placing the cam closer to the shutter & mirror which resulted in a reduced number of parts in transmission; setting a direct drive, means transmission loss is reduced, and accuracy is increased; the use of metallic parts improved both accuracy and durability. Furthermore, the introduction of high-strength engineering resin presents excellent wear resistance.

"We adopted a variety of ingenious new technologies and concepts to obtain the highest image quality Shigeru Iwase
Secondly, a completely redesigned new mirror mechanism. With a clear aim to be quieter, faster, shock less, and more importantly, sounds just perfect, emphasis on sound here, literally. This gave birth to a mirror box made of carbon resin material with very high rigidity. The viewfinder magnification was increased by using a larger prism, and the AF coverage rate got improved by increasing the size of the AF sub-mirror. Giving the mirror box unit, image sensor unit and shutter unit different paths, meant that no shock got transmitted to the shutter drive or to the image sensor.

Panasonic unveiled the DMC-L10 today. The camera is a hybrid (In look and feel) between Panasonic's FZ line and DSLR. Simon over at dpreview.com has posted a nice preview of the camera.. The camera seems to share the guts from the E-410 (10MP, 3fps, no IS, 3 focus points) but the rest looks like developed by Panasonic. The camera also has an articulated screen and 11 point contrast AF points, in addition to the 3 phase-detection AF points. Price around USD 1300 including the 14-50mm F3.8-5.6 OIS lens.
