I asked Andrzej Wrotniak at www.wrotniak.net how to read out camerahouse stats, and he says this:

**************
How to display the info pages of your Olympus 4/3rds camera

Open the CF card door. (This can be done with the camera on.) If the camera is off, turn it on with the On/Off switch. The "Card-Cover Open" message will appear on the camera's LCD monitor.

Simultaneously press the following two buttons:

- E-1, E-300, E-500: Press the [>] (play) and "OK" buttons.
- E-330: Simultaneously press the "Menu" and "OK" buttons.

On the E-1, the firmware version of the camera and attached lens and flash will be displayed on the camera's LCD monitor. If you're using an E-300, E-500 or E-330, the camera model name will be displayed.

Press: Up, Down, Left, Right, Shutter.

Use the navigation buttons to display the desired info page:

- Up – display Page 1
- Right – display Page 2
- Down – display Page 3
- Left – diagnostic display

To return to normal camera operation shut the CF card door.

Here is what each info page contains:

E-1 Page 1 (up)
MU – unknown
MB – unknown
M3 – unknown
SL – unknown
L – lens code

1005 = FL-50

E-500 Page 1 (up)
B – unknown
U – unknown
C – unknown
A – unknown
L – lens code
F – flash code

Page 2 (right)

R – number of shutter activations, but the total is not correct for some cameras which may indicate that something can reset it)
S – number of times a flash was fired
M (C in the E-330) – number of times the mirror has been locked up (cleaning mode)
U – number of times the camera has been turned on (and the ultrasonic wave cleaner activated)

Page 3 (down)
CS – camera serial number
MCS – unknown
CAMID (E-1) – unknown

no title (left)
D _: – unsure (may report the last diagnostic error code if there was a problem)

Note the line
"Press: Up, Down, Left, Right, Shutter."
Skipping this step will prevent page navigation!

Useful i.e. when buying used, for checking total number of exposures etc.

It is the IS system resetting. For some reason it resets when the camera is turned off, but does not happen if the IS is turned off before the camera is turned off.

There is a 2x multiplier coming. And a 70-300mm lens from Olympus. Sigma also makes affordable long lenses, like the 50-500mm and 135-400mm.

Yes. focus and aperture are those things that are guaranteed to work. Even if other features don't (Like Leica/Panasonic aperture ring on their lenses when used on Olympus cameras)

SSWD stands for Supersonic Wave Drive. It is basically Olympus version of Canon's USM and Nikon AF-S systems. Instead of the usual magnetic motors, the SSWD uses a high-frequency vibrating motor that moves the focusing mechanism.
This is both faster and quieter (virtually silent) than traditional motors.
