Turning this on replaces two of the fixed scene modes on the dial (sports and night) with the two underwater modes. If you go to the Oly firmware page (shown below), there is a link for each body to a description of the upgrade...with the E-300 1.3 there was also a supplement to the manual which explains these icons in detail.
